Since its founding on March 4, 1997, Bolivia Petróleo y Gas Consultores y Servicios S.R.L. (Bolpegas) has established itself as a benchmark in Bolivia’s energy industry. With nearly three decades of experience and a team of over 3,000 highly qualified professionals, the company has contributed to the development and modernization of both the hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors in the country.

Bolivia’s energy and industrial growth while complying with current regulations and the highest technical and quality standards. Its focus on technological innovation and sustainability has allowed it to adapt to market trends and develop efficient and responsible solutions.

A COMMITMENT TO RENEWABLE ENERGY

In recent years, the company has focused its efforts on developing renewable energy projects, particularly in solar and wind power. By 2025, it plans to optimize its technologies through the implementation of high-efficiency solar panels and next-generation wind turbines.

One of its most emblematic projects is the 3MW Solar Plant at the BFC Slaughterhouse in San Ignacio de Velasco, the largest private-sector renewable energy project in Bolivia. “This project marks a milestone in the use of renewable energy in Bolivia and demonstrates the private sector’s commitment to the energy transition,” says Andrea Carrillo, Bolpegas S.R.L.’s Renewable Energy Coordinator.

In this context, the company envisions a highly positive outlook for renewable energy in the country. Carrillo asserts that as investments in the sector continue to grow, clean energy is expected to play an increasingly significant role in Bolivia’s national energy matrix.

“With a vision centered on innovation and sustainability, Bolpegas S.R.L. continues to lead the transformation of Bolivia’s energy sector…”

She is confident that with increasing public policy support and improved infrastructure, Bolivia is on track to becoming a regional leader in renewable energy. “The transition to more sustainable energy sources will undoubtedly be a key driver of economic growth and the country’s carbon footprint reduction,” Carrillo states.

CHALLENGES IN INTEGRATING CLEAN ENERGY

While incorporating renewable energy is crucial for the sector’s sustainability, Bolpegas S.R.L. faces significant challenges, such as the intermittency of solar and wind sources, which require a flexible grid infrastructure and advanced energy storage systems.

Another key challenge is the lack of large-scale energy storage infrastructure, which limits the ability to optimize energy generation during periods of low demand. To address these obstacles, Bolpegas is working on the implementation of advanced storage solutions, such as high-capacity lithium batteries and demand management systems, which will allow surplus energy to be stored and distributed during critical moments.

In this context, the company has also diversified its business portfolio. In 2020, Bolpegas became a partner of Quantum Batteries S.R.L., the first lithium-ion battery assembly plant in Latin America specializing in electromobility. This initiative reinforces its commitment to the transition to clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Moreover, quality and efficiency are fundamental pillars of this Bolivian company, a pioneer in providing services to the oil industry. By 2025, the company aims to obtain ISO 50001 certification, ensuring efficient and sustainable energy management. “Our commitment to continuous improvement drives us to adopt the best practices in the sector,” highlights Cinthia Soruco, CSMS Manager at Bolpegas.

In terms of efficiency, Bolpegas S.R.L. is incorporating high-efficiency bifacial solar panels into its projects an innovative technology that captures radiation on both the front and rear sides of the panel, increasing electricity generation. These innovations position the company as one of the most technologically advanced and sustainability-driven in the energy sector.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

In the medium term, Bolpegas S.R.L. plans to expand its involvement in renewable energy projects while continuing to modernize the hydrocarbon sector. In the field of hydrocarbon exploration and extraction, the company seeks to collaborate with international partners to optimize production and develop new reserves.

Bolpegas’ analysis of Bolivia’s energy future emphasizes the importance of a diversified energy matrix that combines hydrocarbons with clean sources. The company recognizes that transitioning to a sustainable model is a complex challenge but also asserts that it presents a significant opportunity for economic growth and a reduced carbon footprint in the country.

With a vision focused on innovation and sustainability, Bolpegas S.R.L. continues to lead the transformation of Bolivia’s energy sector, reaffirming its commitment to responsible development and the well-being of future generations.
