With the goal of promoting the energy transition towards cleaner and more sustainable sources, the United Kingdom and Bolivia join efforts to develop plans for the generation of sustainable energy sources, such as low-carbon hydrogen. This initiative, which includes the production of electrolytic and green hydrogen, as well as hydrogen enabled for Carbon Capture, Usage, and Storage (CCUS), aims to support Bolivia’s efforts in its hydrogen strategy and transition towards an environmentally friendly energy matrix.

In July, the first Low-Carbon and Green Hydrogen Training began, organized by the British Embassy in Bolivia in collaboration with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy. This activity was aimed at public sector institutions and academia, with the main objective of providing the necessary knowledge to drive the development and implementation of hydrogen projects in Bolivia.

BOLIVIA, WITH THE BEST RENEWABLE RESOURCES

This training was conducted by David Thomason, a renowned expert in hydrogen projects with extensive experience in the field of renewable energy. Thomason is a partner at Everoze, a British consultancy specializing in renewable energies, storage, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. He is a Chemical Engineer from the University of Edinburgh and holds postgraduate studies in Renewable Energies.

During the training, expert Thomason stated, “If hydrogen is going to work anywhere in the world, it will be in a place like Bolivia, a country with the best renewable energy resources.” In addition, the Vice Minister of Alternative Energies of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy added, “Hydrogen will solve many energy problems in the future; it is not the panacea for today but for tomorrow.”

The UK Ambassador, Jeff Glekin, emphasized, “Bolivia has the potential to be a leader in Green Hydrogen, and we would like the UK to be one of its main partners in this development.”

This initiative has been a valuable opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties in energy matters and to promote the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable technologies in both nations.

The United Kingdom is committed to being a partner to Bolivia, sharing its expertise and knowledge in this field. This two-day workshop is an example of this commitment and will pave the way for future activities between both countries.

Bolivia has the potential to be a leader in Green Hydrogen, and we would like the UK to be one of its main partners in this development.”
